A hiatal hernia is a weakness in the diaphragm muscle that separates the lungs from the abdomen which allows the stomach to slip up above the diaphragm. This weakness occurs where the esophagus comes through the diaphragm (openning=hiatus)
.We have a great deal of experience with hiatal hernia repair including reinforcement with biologic materials. For more information please see our section on hiatal hernias.
